Dear Valued NYSCMA Inc. Members,
I cannot believe we are almost a month into the New Year.
I, for one, was very happy to see 2009 end and am looking
forward to a new and improved 2010. One sure way to help insure
that is to plan on attending the Third Annual Sales &
Marketing Joint Conference and 94th Annual Sales
Conference of NYSCMA, Inc.
On behalf of the NYSCMA, Inc. Officers and Directors, I am
pleased to announce the 2010 conference will be held at The
Gideon Putnam in Saratoga Springs. The conference is scheduled
to kickoff Sunday, May 16th and end Tuesday at
Noon, May 18th.
These are indeed challenging times in the newspaper business
which makes these idea-exchanging forums even more important.
Mindful of this, the joint planning committee has implemented
several changes in an effort to make this year’s conference more
affordable and compact. The most apparent is that the conference
has been shortened by a day and the social activities have been
moved to coincide with registration rather than displace
valuable program time. This has enabled us to reduce
registration fees, eliminate one night’s stay, and still provide
a meaningful program.
The Gideon Putnam, that stately old friend, nestled in the
tranquil Spa State Park is once again our host. Easy to get to,
just minutes off the Northway, The Gideon is a perennial
favorite with our group. Nearby historic Saratoga Springs has a
lot to offer as well. Attached are the registration form and a
list of suggested activities and attractions for the area.
The business program is falling into place and will be once
again getting kicked off with a panel of NYS Publishers. This
will be followed by another panel of newspaper business managers
and controllers who will share revenue enhancing and cost
reduction ideas. This session alone could easily pay for the
meeting. Noted newspaper attorney, Michael Zinser, NAA’s John
Murray and the ever-popular “Hot Ideas Session” are also on the
program. Sales promotion winners will be announced at Monday’s
awards dinner. Be sure to check our website as further sessions
are confirmed and added.
I truly believe our conference presents a great value at only
$100. Register before April 15, and additional members are only
$75. I urge you to take advantage and register now. More members
mean more ideas and discourse – everybody wins.
See
you in Saratoga,
Dennis Donoghue
