Spring Conference |
![]() |
The 2010 Spring Conference was the 3rd Annual Advertising and Circulation Joint Conference of the New York State Circulation Management Association and The New York Newspaper Advertising and Marketing Executives. The event took place from May 16th till May 18th at the Gideon Putnam Resort in Saratoga Springs NY. Although many of the meetings and workshops were specific to one or the other organization, there were many opportunities for cooperative training and interaction. Advertising departments and circulation departments are both sales departments with similar needs and similar challenges. These departments work closely together at many newspapers and this opportunity to strengthen that working relationship can only be a benefit to the newspaper industry and the individual members of NYNAME and NYSCMA. This was an excellent opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with advertising, marketing executives, and circulation managers from all over New York State.

"I would like
to thank NYSCMA, Inc for the opportunity to attend your Sales & Marketing
conference. As a fairly new District Sales Manager, I feel I have had the
opportunity to learn valuable information to share with my colleagues. I enjoyed
the Michael Zinser session on Independent Contractors the most and it is the one
from which I took the most information. It was truly an enlightening
experience."

"The 2010 Joint Sales & Marketing conference
was a phenomenal resource for me, and the rest of our staff. I walked out
the door with 3 new subscriber programs, and that was just from chatting with
the vendors! The Michael Zinser session was great, and from that we are
passing his information throughout our department, and will conduct a few staff
training sessions in the coming weeks. I highly recommend it, even if you
can only send one person from your newspaper. The ideas you bring back
will pay for the conference, and beyond!"

"The 2010 Joint Circulation & Advertising
Conference at Saratoga Springs provided me with many brainstorming opportunities
with circulation colleagues, advertising staff as well as vendors. The sessions
were dead on and very thought provoking. The “Get Paid on Scan” session was
tremendous as it discussed one of circulation’s biggest challenges in the coming
years. It was a call to action for newspapers to work together as chain stores
look to minimize their accountability by only paying for newspapers scanned. It
was impressive to see Gary Valik appointed as NYSCMA’s new Pay on Scan Director
and immediately scheduled to attend the NEACE conference to learn and lead the
charge representing the best interest of New York newspapers. I left here with
ideas to grow circulation and maximize our revenue."

"This year’s conference was a great
experience and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to attend after missing
the 09 conference. The agenda was concise and the speakers were compelling and
informative. I came away with enhanced job knowledge, great sales ideas and
renewed enthusiasm for our industry."

“The
NYSCMA/NYNAME 3rd annual joint conference in Saratoga was an information-filled
event, no matter the discipline. From the latest developments in audience
reporting to ideas to grow revenue or reduce operational expenses, this
conference was a winner!”
Mark Vinciguerra
Circulation Director
The Times Union

"I found the entire conference to be
extremely beneficial but totally enjoyed the presentation on scan based trading
and subsequent Q and A from our industry colleagues from I-Control. It is quite
apparent that scan based is here to stay and learned several tips regarding how
to pursue the most efficient payment models."
